Hope is here! And she is not alone. Tara Handron, the playwright and sole actor in her 60-minute play, “Drunk with Hope,” discards clichéd depictions of recovery and relies on stories with depth, poignancy, and humor to expose the raw emotions and experiences so many alcoholic women face. The play evolved out of her Georgetown University master’s thesis on female recovering alcoholics, the 12-Step group dynamic, and the comparison of women’s experiences in traditional face-to-face recovery meetings to online meetings. Tara has performed her play in numerous cities (NYC, DC, LA, Chicago, Atlanta…) and diverse venues including theaters, festivals, conferences, treatment centers, and jails (yes, jails!).
